Anonymous vs Authenticated Comments

Anonymous Comments

Submitted by visitors without accounts:

  • Require name and email
  • Email used for approval notifications
  • No profile linking

Authenticated Comments

Submitted by logged-in users:

  • Profile linked to comment
  • Email from account used for notifications
  • Username displayed (if public)

Rate Limiting

Public comment endpoints are rate limited:

  • 5 comments per hour per IP address
  • Prevents spam and abuse
  • Applies to both anonymous and authenticated users

Bulk Actions

From the moderation page, you can:

  1. Filter comments by status
  2. Review multiple comments at once
  3. Take individual actions on each

Currently, actions are applied one comment at a time.

Troubleshooting

Comments not appearing

Check:

  • Post has comments enabled
  • Comment visibility is "Public"
  • Comment status is "Approved"
  • Post is published (not draft)

Not receiving email notifications

  • Verify email configuration is set up
  • Check spam folder
  • Ensure the post author has a valid email

"Comments are not enabled" error

The post's comment settings are disabled. Enable comments in the post editor.

Rate limit error for legitimate users

Users are limited to 5 comments per hour. This resets hourly.

Best Practices

  1. Enable moderation - Review comments before public display
  2. Respond promptly - Don't leave pending comments too long
  3. Be consistent - Apply the same standards to all comments
  4. Reject, don't delete - Preserve records for audit purposes
  5. Use spam marking - Helps identify patterns
  6. Check regularly - Set a routine for moderation

Activity Logging

All comment actions are logged:

  • Comment submissions
  • Approval/rejection decisions
  • Spam markings
  • Deletions

View the activity log in team settings for a complete history.
