How to Make a Project Public or Private
Project visibility controls who can see your work. Public projects appear on your profile; private projects are team-only. This guide shows you how to toggle between them.
Prerequisites
Before you begin:
- You must have an existing project
- You need owner or admin permissions for the project
Steps
Step 1: Open Project Settings
- Navigate to Projects in the sidebar
- Click the project you want to modify
- Go to the Settings tab
Step 2: Find Visibility Settings
Scroll to the Visibility section. You'll see the current setting highlighted.
Step 3: Change Visibility
To Make Public
- Select Public
- Review the warning about what will be visible:
- Project name and description
- Tech stack tags
- Result blurb
- Portfolio images
- Click Save
To Make Private
- Select Private
- Click Save
- The project will immediately be removed from your public profile
Expected Result
When Made Public
- Project appears on your public profile page
- Anyone with the profile URL can see basic project info
- Tech stack and result blurb are visible
- Internal files, tasks, and feedback remain private
When Made Private
- Project is removed from public profile
- Only team members can access the project
- External visitors cannot see it exists
Troubleshooting
Can't find the visibility option
The setting may be in different locations depending on your view. Try:
- Project Settings tab
- Project Overview page (edit mode)
- The three-dot menu on the project card
Public option is disabled
Your account plan may not support public projects. Check your subscription level.
Project still appears publicly after making private
There may be a brief caching delay. Wait a few minutes and refresh. If it persists, try clearing your browser cache.
Made public but doesn't show on profile
Check that:
- Your public profile is enabled (see How to Publish Your Profile)
- The project is marked as "show on profile" if that's a separate setting
