How to Link Projects to Clients
Linking projects to clients helps you organize work and view all projects for a specific client in one place. This guide covers both linking existing projects and creating new projects for clients.
Prerequisites
Before you begin:
- You must be signed in to your account
- You must have at least one client created
- You must have projects to link (or permission to create new ones)
Method 1: Link Existing Projects
Step 1: Navigate to Client Detail
From the sidebar, click Clients, then click on the client you want to link projects to.
Step 2: Open Link Project Dialog
In the Projects section, click the Link Existing button.
Step 3: Select Projects
From the dialog, select the projects you want to link to this client. The list shows projects that aren't currently linked to any client.
Step 4: Confirm
Click Link to associate the selected projects with the client. The linked projects now appear in the client's Projects section.
Method 2: Create New Project for Client
Step 1: Navigate to Client Detail
From the sidebar, click Clients, then click on the client.
Step 2: Open Create Project Dialog
In the Projects section, click Create Project.
Step 3: Fill Project Details
Complete the project form. The client is automatically selected since you're creating from the client detail page.

Step 4: Create
Click Create Project. The project is created and automatically linked to the client.
Method 3: Link When Creating a Project
Step 1: Navigate to Projects
From the sidebar, click Projects.
Step 2: Create New Project
Click New Project to open the project creation form.
Step 3: Select Client
In the project form, use the Client dropdown to select which client this project belongs to.
Step 4: Complete and Create
Fill in the remaining project details and click Create. The project is linked to the selected client.
Method 4: Link Existing Project from Project Settings
Step 1: Open Project
From the Projects list, click on the project you want to link.
Step 2: Open Settings
Navigate to the project's settings or edit mode.
Step 3: Select Client
Use the Client dropdown to select the client you want to link this project to.
Step 4: Save
Save the project settings. The project is now linked to the client.
Expected Result
After linking a project to a client:
- The project appears in the client's detail page under "Projects"
- The client filter in the Projects list can show projects for this client
- The project's details show which client it belongs to
Unlinking Projects
To remove a project from a client:
- Open the project settings
- Clear the Client selection or select a different client
- Save changes
The project remains intact but is no longer associated with that client.
Best Practices
- Link projects early - Associate projects with clients when creating them to maintain organization
- Review periodically - Ensure all client work is properly linked
- Use consistent naming - Name projects in a way that makes the client relationship clear
- Don't over-link - Only link projects that genuinely belong to a client
Troubleshooting
Client dropdown is empty
You don't have any clients yet. Create a client first:
Can't find the project to link
- The project may already be linked to another client
- Check that you're viewing the correct team
- Verify the project exists in your Projects list
Project not showing after linking
- Refresh the page
- Verify the link was saved successfully
- Check that you're viewing the correct client
